Job Description

Basic Function

The Application Architect is a senior technical position with our product development organization and is responsible for the architectural design of one or more applications and platform services, along with providing architectural direction and technical mentoring to the agile software development teams supporting these applications and platform services.

 

To be successful in this position, a candidate will need to be passionate about building great software, be an evangelist for software quality/craftsmanship, possess intellectual curiosity and have strong verbal and written communication skills.

 

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Application Architecture (50%):
    • Support agile software development team needs by translating solution architecture into easily consumed application-specific reference architecture items that enable our software development teams to work more efficiently.
    • Maintain documentation in accordance with established best practices and guidelines.
    • Translate strategic software roadmap items into platform and/or application-specific components, services, and systems.
    • Proactively communicate with Solutions Architecture team to identity improvement opportunities, problems, bottlenecks, etc.
    • Identify technology enablers to improve overall software and system capabilities.

 

  • Platform Standards & Development (15%)
    • Work with Solutions Architecture and agile software development teams to formulate, develop, and maintain development standards & best practices.
    • Develop example projects, documentation, etc. to support application & platform guidelines.
    • Serve as subject matter expert of application & platform standards & best practices within assigned software teams and/or projects.
    • Execute strategic projects (DevOps, platform components & services, etc.) to improve overall development throughput and efficiency.
    • Facilitate communication between agile software development teams and the architecture team (identify problems, new needs, trends, etc.).

 

  • Technical Mentoring (10%):
    • Participate in agile team grooming, planning, daily standups to provide technical mentoring and architectural direction.  
    • Participate in code reviews to provide technical mentoring and confirm that architectural direction was met.
    • Proactively work with team members to ensure work being performed is consistent with platform guidelines & best practices.

 

  • Hands-On Development (25%)
    • Create prototypes, starter projects, code samples, etc. in support of the strategic software roadmap & architectural runway.
    • Help to accelerate team velocity as needed by completing work as part of a team’s sprint.
    • Help to improve team efficiency by assisting with issues relating to work items in the current sprint of assigned projects and/or teams.
    • Execute research & development projects in support of strategic software roadmap (identify, describe, execute and communicate results).

 

Other Duties

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science (or related discipline) required or equivalent experience.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 7 to 9+ years of experience developing software (preferably C#, .NET).
  • 1 to 3+ years in senior developer role, leading and mentoring fellow software developers within a team (non-managerial).
  • Experience architecting modern, enterprise-scale applications.
  • Experience as a Full-Stack developer working with C# and modern JavaScript frameworks (Angular/React/Vue).

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with IaaS and PaaS cloud providers such as Azure or AWS (preferably Azure).  
  • Experience with CI/CD.
  • Experience with Automation Testing.
  • Experience with cloud containers (Docker) and continuous delivery.
  • Experience with Banking Industry/Financial Services software.
