Newly created Executive Leadership opportunity with a well established, family-owned specialty construction business with aggressive plans for growth.
This exciting position requires the ability to work closely with the CEO and other members of the leadership team to meet company objectives, as well as the ability to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced ever-changing environment, while remaining flexible, resourceful, proactive, and efficient with a high level of professionalism, sense of urgency and confidentiality. The Director will provide overall leadership direction to an ongoing portfolio of MN construction and continuous improvement projects for the daily operation of the MN branches.
The area of responsibility for this role is very wide and thus requires thorough knowledge of various Company processes. This position requires the aptitude to anticipate problems, critical issues, and opportunities as they arise; along with the capability to creatively problem solve and bring together viable solutions. The ideal candidate must be competent, willing to work hard, not procrastinate on anything and able to plan many kinds of operational activities at the same time.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Manage the overall financial health of construction projects:
- Develop and maintain appropriate construction staffing, materials, locates and equipment resources for construction projects and be held accountable to the budget.
- Ensure construction transactions are timely and accurate to meet the needs of percent complete accounting.
- Approve invoices and make necessary budget management decisions.
- Ensure invoicing and billings are provided and managed in a timely manner in support of optimizing cash flow and closing the books.
- Maximize current year construction revenue and profitability by continually challenging coordinators and crews to pull construction work forward and find ways to complete work in less-than-ideal work or scheduling conditions – this includes working with other branch offices and operating companies to ensure we complete as much work as possible while managing staff requirements.
Manage all resources required for an effective and efficient construction function:
- Provide job assignments to coordinators and manage career development.
- Lead the weekly MN coordinator meetings. Monitor backlog report and estimated vs. actual report for crews and personnel that report to you; provide insight into sales forecasts, project lead times and project financial performance and changes to improve financial performance.
- Routine site visits to project sites to monitor progress and develop corrective actions if necessary.
- Coordinate the review and analysis of construction equipment.
- Utilize and coordinate all human resources under your direction…coordinators, crews, yard personnel, etc. to optimize our results and assure that everyone is fully utilized.
Continuous improvement and relationship building:
- Develop, maintain, and drive continuous improvement projects…to achieve and sustain a competitive advantage for the business of the Company.
- Work with field crews to develop and share best practices that increase productivity, overall cost effectiveness and safety.
- Develop and manage the team, lead by example.
- Provide direction to the team regarding company initiatives, priorities, and changes (i.e., crew organization, structure and processes, new technology, performance reviews, policies, etc.) and hold team members accountable.
- Review and communicate performance expectations and observations to drive accountability.
- Understand the local market, community involvement and identify growth opportunities.
- In conjunction with the CEO, COO, and CFO, develop, implement, and execute short, medium and long-range plans and recommendations on company initiatives, polices and/or procedures.
- Originates personnel actions, including hiring, promotions, salary, and wage increases, etc.
- Partner with executive leadership within the Company to share best practices.
Required Skills & Experience:
- BS degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- Minimum seven (7) years of directly related experience is a plus.
- Strong desire to grow the business, continuous improvement, and be a team player and subscribe to the philosophy that we cannot sit idle, there is power in numbers and data, and we must use them, must continuously improve and have a proactive, aggressive approach to win and beat sales goals.
- Must be flexible with a willingness to perform the jobs personally as well as through delegation or interaction with others and must be able to relate to all levels of personnel.
- Must carry out directives from CEO, COO, and CFO, and support them in all respects and actively work to promote the direction and vision of the President
- Proven experience bringing a team together and holding employees accountable.
- Strong knowledge of ERP systems & computer networks
- Well organized, attention to detail, multi-task and work with a high sense of urgency at peak times
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and have good public relations skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
