Director of Operations

Provide leadership and direction to foster the company’s growth through strategic manufacturing and operations practices. Plant operations include 3 Minnesota, Arizona and Ohio, direct reports are the 3 Plant Managers. This position reports to the CEO and COO.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding, coaching and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; maintaining confidentiality; timekeeping.  Challenges others to develop as leaders, while serving as a role model and mentor.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain a culture of continuous feedback and improvement, training and development and safety.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to multi-state manufacturing operating divisions.
  • Serve on the Executive Leadership Team which includes strategic planning, setting organizational direction and priorities, strategic decision making, and discussing and solving issues in an honest and open team environment. 
  • Develop high performing leaders at all levels of the operation, employees, and teams through ongoing coaching, mentoring, and training and development. 
  • Create, lead, communicate and implement company-wide plans in the areas of safety, quality, manufacturing technology, lean and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute strategic and annual business plans. Develop policies and programs that improve competitive position and profitability and align with long range objectives
  • Develop, analyze, and manage operating budgets and P&L, including controlling expenses to achieve profitability objectives and long-term goals. Recommend and manage capital expenditures.
  • Direct and oversee managers to accomplish established operating goals.
  • Continuously communicate with managers on issues including safety, quality, inventory, security, employee relations, technology, scheduling, and training. 
  • Lead facilities improvements and other special project initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Automation/Engineering teams to ensure successful implementation of automation and manufacturing technology initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues.
  • Build and strengthen cross-functional teams to address and resolve customer concerns and improve internal communication and efficiencies. 
  • Lead capacity and resource utilization planning in collaboration with Sales and Marketing, Supply Chain, and other departments to ensure requirements of fulfillment are met and adjusted as required.
  • Oversee the organization and facilitation of physical inventory counts for reporting divisions. 
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with key customers.
  • Establish and ensure proper systems, procedures, internal controls, quality standards and metrics are in place for all functional areas. 
  • Adhere to and maintain compliance with established company systems, policies, and procedures.
  • Keep supervisor(s) and other members of management informed of progress, issues, and successes.
  • Work continually toward professional development to stay current on relevant industry trends, manufacturing, customer service and supervisory procedures and leadership practices.
  • Demonstrate and uphold company values.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering or related discipline required.
  • A minimum of 10 years progressive experience in manufacturing operations, preferably in high-speed manufacturing, a process-oriented operation and/or related industry.  Multi-state operations experience desired.   
  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience required.
  • Experience identifying and leading continuous improvement initiatives required.
  • Strong computer skill proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.  Experience with ERP systems required. 
  • Experience with automation and robotics preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Ability to compose concise and clear correspondence, reports, and manuals.
  • Ability to guide others and provide work direction.  Ability to speak, effectively present information and respond to questions before groups of employees, customers and vendors.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • A high level of attention to detail, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Demonstrated sound judgement, problem solving conflict management and decision-making in emotional, difficult, and stressful situations.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, including but not limited to policy and procedure manuals, technical instructions, general business periodicals and safety protocols.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations, involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Ability to interpret data, formulas, equations, and graphs in most complex forms.
  • Ability to apply principles of logic and critical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
  • Strong customer service (internal and external) focus.
