Director of Surgery (ID:45112)
Hospital leadership opportunity to oversee and drive the continued success of a Surgical Services department. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Surgery will provide daily operational oversight, lead quality and continuous improvement initiatives, ensure patient safety, engage Medical Staff, mentor and develop team members, while implementing departmental strategies.
The Director of Surgery is a Registered Nurse (RN), responsible for supervising and coordinating efficient and high quality surgical services. This exciting role will direct, manage, and lead surgical nursing services and central supply areas in overall planning, development, implementation, organization, and evaluation of patient care for surgical patients during the perioperative, intraoperative, and post-anesthesia recovery stay. 

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Works in collaboration with the Vice President of Patient Services in an environment where nursing is an integral component of an interdisciplinary care team.
  • Leads all surgery personnel and participates in the development of staff, identifying educational needs and learning opportunities.
  • Develops and manages the schedule, including the on call schedule.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills in work delegation, supervision, coaching, and conflict resolution.
  • Builds effective working relationships with surgery staff, clearly communicating expectations.
  • Collaborates with the surgical team and other departments to provide a safe, quality, and secure environment for patients, families, and staff.
  • Participates in development of the departmental budget; monitors monthly revenues and expenses.
  • Coordinates department activities to effectively utilize available resources in the most efficient manner, including human resources.
  • Organizes patient care processes and provides for effective and efficient workflows.
  • Supports and promotes a patient and family centered care experience.
  • Participates in quality assessment and improvement through development of standards and data collection and analysis.
  • Promotes effective communication within the department and with other departments.
  • Provides input and collaborates in the formulation of patient care policies and procedures.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • RN currently licensed to practice in the State of Minnesota
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical operating room experience (circulating/scrubbing)
  • Minimum of 5 years of operating room leadership experience at a Manager or Director level
  • Master's in Nursing or related field
