The EMS Director maintains standards to insure safe and therapeutically effective patient care during pre-hospital emergency calls and hospital-to hospital ambulance transfers. Reports to VP of Patient Services.

Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversee Operations Director
- Recruit and retain approximately 20 EMT level basic personnel and 6-8 paramedics for primary ambulance calls
- Oversee initial training of advanced and basic personnel within 1 year of joining Perham Area EMS
- Oversee, organize and conduct monthly in-service classes to maintain current certification levels
- Develop written protocols and review with physician medical director and ambulance staff on annual basis
- Assure accurate and complete reports are completed for all ambulance calls
- Conduct quarterly run-review of selected calls with medical director and ambulance personnel
- Periodically evaluate need for additional equipment
- Assure repair of faculty equipment on timely basis
- Arrange for periodic testing of patient monitoring and vital sign equipment
- Review profit and loss records monthly
- Review billing reports from billing company to ensure all calls are billed, work with billing company to maintain acceptable accounts receivable balance
- Prepare reports of statistical data and conduct monthly meeting with ambulance personnel, and semi-annual meetings with Joint Powers board
- Ensure EMS staff meets Joint Commission competency standards annually, along with Paramedic Operations Supervisor conduct annual employee evaluations
- Conduct departmental quality reviews and evaluations to help identify weaknesses, strengths and identify performance improvement projects
- Plan, organize and develop lesson plans for EMS training programs in conjunction with EMS department instructors
- Work with hospital safety committees to implement safe work procedures when appropriate, investigate injury reports, track injury data, participate in safety inspections as needed and attend monthly safety meetings as scheduled
- Meet facility Standards of Behavior
- Meet accountabilities required of Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic
- Participate in hospital, city, county and state emergency planning
- Other duties as assigned
- Maintain current certification as Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic and American Heart Association certification as Advanced Cardiac Life Support provides
- Able to communicate effectively with many diverse groups of people
- Have an understanding of Medicare, Medicaid regulations and billing practices
- Have basic knowledge of accounting, budget preparation, computer keyboarding, computer operations and network management
