Our client's mission is to provide reliable, safe service to clients by assisting in loss control and emergency preparedness programs to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with regulations. This position also facilitates the creation and execution of the Organizational Safety Plan. You will shape the Safety Management System to ensure employees are equipped to perform their work safely and compliantly. Additionally, electrical safety education should be provided to employees, schools, community groups, and the public.
Roles & Responsibilities:
45% Develop, implement, and monitor a safety program to protect employees, members, and the general public.
- Interpret OSHA, ANSI, NESC, and other safety requirements for all fieldwork environments and ensure compliance
- Conduct on-site inspections of operational procedures, equipment, and materials compliance, noting violations and addressing unsafe acts or conditions
- Perform workplace hazard assessments, assist with process documentation, and facilitate job hazard analysis for safety-sensitive tasks
- Lead post-accident, incident, and near-miss investigations, document findings, conduct root cause analyses, and update practices as needed. Recommend budget needs for safety program implementation
30% Design, organize, and conduct safety meetings and programs for all field workers.
- Assess safety training needs; develop and deliver safety programs covering industry safety procedures, first aid/CPR, hazard communication, defensive driving, and relevant OSHA standards.
- Conduct internal safety audits
- Review and update the employee safety manual regularly; develop, implement, and communicate safety procedures, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations
- Collaborate with department managers to create annual safety plans aligned with cooperative goals, providing resources and guidance for effective implementation and compliance monitoring
- Facilitate safety committee meetings, oversee committee activities, and document actions and recommendations
- Address inquiries from government agencies, employees, and the public regarding the cooperative's safety programs
- Support affiliated organizations with special compliance needs as requested
- Develop and manage qualified worker checklists for field employees, ensuring required training is provided
- Meet with the Executive Team as needed and maintain an active role in the Safety Steering Committee
15% Assist with the emergency preparedness program of the cooperative.
- Participate in work performed by the emergency preparedness committee
- Train cooperative staff on preparedness plans and organize disaster drills, reviewing results for improvements
- Represent the Cooperative in emergency management meetings at state, city, and county levels
10% Assist with public-facing safety presentations as requested.
Required Skills & Experience:
- A four-year degree and/or a minimum of 5 + years related experience with specific safety assurance and emergency management responsibilities or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
- 5 + years of experience implementing and leading Field Safety Program Management
- 5 + years of proven experience growing behavior-based safety cultures
- Strong knowledge of safety-related laws, codes, and regulations to evaluate and develop safety programs
- Open to local travel to sites as needed
- Valid driver's license
