Job Description

The Human Resources Manager plans, organizes and directs the following activities: recruitment and selection of in-house employees, performance management, compensation, employee benefits, health and safety, control accident and health exposures, employee relations, affirmative action/EEO functions, employee records, and all other human resources functions. This position applies professional knowledge and personal judgment to a variety of technical staff-related and managerial problems and issues.

Roles & Responsibilities: 

•Works proactively with senior management and staff to ensure that the Company is able to recruit, motivate and retain needed staff.

•Tracks candidate and hired employee demographics for EEO reporting purposes. Ensures Company hiring, selection, termination, promotion, training, and layoff processes comply with EEOC requirements in compliance with federal and state contracts.

•Updates and maintains the compensation structure, pay policies, performance appraisal programs, and employee benefit programs. Prepare and update job descriptions as needed. Conducts wage surveys within labor markets to determine competitive wage rates. Analyzes wage and salary reports and data to determine competitive compensation plan.

•Manages in-house employee development and training programs that address employee needs (e.g., required annual OSHA/safety training, managers’ training on Performance Appraisals, Interviewing, etc.)

•Handles all risk management situations, including workers’ compensation claim management.

•Track and manage Company employee benefits offerings, managing performance management system, including Performance Improvement Programs, corrective actions, and promotions. Recommends employee relations practices to establish positive employer-employee relations and promote a high level of employee morale.

•Ensures understanding of and compliance with Human Resources department programs, policies, and activities on the part of managers and department leaders; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues. Reviews Human Resources policies annually and recommends updates as appropriate. Ensures all Human Resources policies and procedures are in compliance with and adhere to standards established by regulatory agencies. Assists and advises managers on talent acquisition and recruiting processes.

•Develops and maintains relationships with managers and department leaders. Serves as an adviser to managers and supervisors regarding employee performance and issues, such as promotions, transfers, and terminations. Keeps leadership informed of changes and new developments in HR. Conducts internal harassment and discrimination investigations; guides supervisors in the investigatory process and conflict resolution as needed.

•Works with outside organizations and vendors in managing the HR department, administering services, and maintaining professional development. Negotiates with insurance companies, brokers, or agencies with respect to premiums, terms and conditions, renewals and modifications of insurance contracts. Responds to Department of Human Rights and/or EEOC charges and unemployment claims. Attends or provides for representation of organization at HR-related hearings and investigations. Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of OFCCP rules, employment laws, new trends and innovations in HR management.

•Prepares and maintains documentation and recordkeeping to comply with HR policies, procedures, and regulations. Retains employee files in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. Responsible for record and data security, including HIPAA compliance. Ensures that accurate files and documentation are kept for all employee actions and transactions, such as hires, promotions, training, transfers, performance reviews and terminations.

 

Required Skills & Experience: 

•Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required or a minimum of five years of previous HR manager-level experience.

•5+ years related experience in Human Resources, including experience in employment and selection, workers’ compensation, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and affirmative action strongly preferred.

•2+ years professional safety experience in light industrial manufacturing preferred.

•3+ years HR management experience required, preferably in staffing, manufacturing, or related field.

•Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities, including developing relationships with employees, managers, executives, vendors, customers, Board members, and staff.

•Ability to supervise employees, set objectives and work goals and standards, give direction, delegate to, and motivate employees.

•Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work unsupervised, make high level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively.

•Able to make proactive service decisions and move forward with projects based on available information; able to think analytically and select a solution from many alternatives.
