The Director of Financial Reporting oversees the company's technical accounting processes, prepares and analyzes financial statements, and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements. This role combines in-depth accounting expertise with the ability to analyze complex transactions, support critical reporting functions, and advise on the financial impact of business decisions. The position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with a strong GAAP, IFRS, and regulatory reporting background who can communicate complex concepts effectively to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Worksite Location: This hybrid position is in Eden Prairie, MN. Onsite work is required on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Technical Accounting & Compliance
- Research and interpret complex accounting standards, including GAAP, IFRS, and SEC regulations.
- Evaluate and implement new accounting standards, guiding cross-functional teams to ensure compliance.
- Provide technical accounting guidance for unusual or complex transactions (e.g., mergers and acquisitions, lease arrangements, revenue recognition).
- Prepare technical accounting memos, policy documents, and procedural guidelines.
- Financial Reporting
- Oversee the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, income, and cash flow statements.
- Coordinate quarterly and annual financial reporting to ensure timely and accurate submissions to regulatory authorities, investors, and stakeholders.
- Support the preparation of SEC filings, including 10-Ks, 10-Qs, and other required disclosures.
- Review and monitor disclosure processes and ensure all financial reporting meets relevant regulatory requirements.
- Audit & Internal Controls
- Liaise with external auditors and lead audit engagements by providing technical support and ensuring the completion of all requests.
- Oversee internal control policies related to financial reporting and identify areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with internal audit teams to address audit findings, ensuring remediation of issues and enhancement of controls.
- Strategic Financial Analysis & Advisory
- Partner with senior leadership to provide insights into financial trends and the impact of accounting and regulatory changes.
- Support M&A activities by performing financial due diligence and assisting with transaction structuring from an accounting perspective.
- Collaborate with FP&A and other finance teams to align on revenue recognition, expense analysis, and reporting requirements.
- Develop and mentor team members, ensuring a deep understanding of accounting principles and their application in the business.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or similar certification required.
- 5+ years of experience in accounting, with a minimum of 2 years in a managerial role.
- Experience in Big 4 or public accounting is a plus, especially in advisory, audit, or technical accounting roles.
- Strong technical knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and SEC regulations.
- Expertise in researching, interpreting, and applying technical accounting guidance.
- Proficiency in financial statement analysis and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail, with excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to communicate complex accounting topics to non-financial stakeholders.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and reporting software preferred.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with other Microsoft Office applications.
