The Project Engineer will work with management and other departments to establish and define requirements for facility and manufacturing projects. This position is responsible for all phases of capital project management from conceptual estimates and designs to construction, commissioning, and start-up. Definition of project scope, financial spending forecast and schedule development are all responsibilities of this position.

Roles & Responsibilities

    • Implement an annual strategic capital plan that improves manufacturing operations, increases efficiencies, and lowers costs.

    • Plan, coordinate, and execute the company’s capital planning goals.

    • Develop budget requests for future projects along with process engineers and others, during annual budget cycle.

    • Manage capital expense request process.

    • Utilize best practices for project management principles for projects. Project definition, concepts, preliminary and detailed designs, construction, and commissioning/verification and completion.

    • Develop conceptual designs, preliminary budgets, and schedules for projects.

    • Observe and develop operational efficiencies within each department. Researching alternatives to offer the lowest cost options while maintaining compliance with all food safety regulations and codes.

    • Select, manage, and coordinate any efforts of design consulting firms.

    • Lead and coordinate internally and externally the efforts of construction firms and subcontractors to ensure the successful implementation of projects.  Meeting or exceeding capital targets.

    • Responsible for all design, construction, contractual and financial areas of assigned projects.

    • Communicate and conduct regular scheduled meetings between team and other stakeholders. Provide statis updates in weekly management meetings.

    • Facilitate change management process to ensure successful implementation of new equipment and projects.

    • Coordinate all project activities with internal departments.

    • Complete assigned projects, which includes starting-up and checking-out all new equipment and systems, inspecting construction, developing, and ensuring complete resolution of items and issues generated during implementation.

    • Complete or arrange for development of complete design documentation for assigned projects.

    • Prepare documentation necessary for project approvals.

    • Provide documentation for projects as applicable.

    • Generate and change documentation as required after project completion.

    • Develop preventative maintenance schedule with maintenance department.


Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or related.

  • 4-10 years’ experience in manufacturing environment required.

  • Food manufacturing experience highly preferred.

  • PMP Certification preferred, but not required.

  • Proficient in CAD (AutoCAD)
