Job Description

The Senior Human Resources Generalist plans, organizes and assists the following activities: health and safety, control accident and health exposures, employee relations, employee records, and all other human resources functions. This position applies professional knowledge and personal judgment to a variety of technical staff-related and managerial problems and issues.


Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Works proactively with senior management and staff to ensure that the Company can recruit, motivate and retain needed staff.
  • Manages in-house employee development and training programs that address employee needs (e.g., required annual OSHA/safety training, managers’ training on Performance Appraisals, Interviewing, etc.)
  • Handles all risk management situations, including safety, risk assessments, and workers’ compensation claim management.
  • Ensures understanding of and compliance with Human Resources department programs, policies, and activities on the part of managers and department leaders; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues. Reviews Human Resources policies annually and recommends updates as appropriate.
  • Ensures all Human Resources policies and procedures are in compliance with and adhere to standards established by regulatory agencies.
  • May work with outside organizations and vendors in managing the HR department, administering services, and maintaining professional development.
  • Negotiates with insurance companies, brokers, or agencies with respect to premiums, terms and conditions, renewals and modifications of insurance contracts. Responds to Department of Human Rights and/or EEOC charges and unemployment claims.
  • Attends or provides for representation of organization at HR-related hearings and investigations. Attends and participates in professional group meetings; stays abreast of OFCCP rules, employment laws, new trends and innovations in HR management.
  • Prepares and maintains documentation and recordkeeping to comply with HR policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Retains employee files in compliance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Responsible for record and data security, including HIPAA compliance.
  • Ensures that accurate files and documentation are kept for all employee actions and transactions, such as hires, promotions, training, transfers, performance reviews and terminations.

 

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required or a minimum of three years of previous HR generalist-level experience.
  • 3+ years related experience in Human Resources, including experience in employment and selection, workers’ compensation, employee relations, compensation and benefits, and affirmative action strongly preferred.
  • 2+ years professional safety experience, being part of or leading a safety committee
  • 2+ years’ experience working with light industrial and/or manufacturing preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship building skills to effectively work with a diverse group/variety of people and personalities, including developing relationships with employees, managers, executives, vendors, customers, Board members, and staff.
  • Plan, prioritize, coordinate, and manage own work in a fast-paced environment. Able to work unsupervised, make high level decisions independently, and solve problems effectively and creatively.
  • Able to make proactive service decisions and move forward with projects based on available information; able to think analytically and select a solution from many alternatives.

  • Understand and maintain confidential nature of organization, employee and customer information, including and in accordance to HIPAA regulations.
  • Able to identify, evaluate, problem solve, and give direction regarding problem resolution for company-wide issues.
