Job Description

 

The Sr. Technical Accountant is responsible for all aspects of the financial and regulatory reporting for our publicly traded client on the Toronto Stock Exchange.  Be part of a high growth entrepreneurial company where you get to see the results of your work. The position is focused on providing the Corporation with technical accounting expertise and assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual financial statements and footnotes, etc.  You will also be involved with mentoring more junior resources on the team.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Leads all financial research efforts: Analyzes, researches and concludes on new and proposed accounting, reporting and disclosure standards issued by the IASB, and prepare memorandums regarding the Corporation’s position and impact on the Corporation
  • Writes, implements, and ensures effective and practical implementation of corporate policies
  • Manages the accounting for the Corporation’s joint ventures
  • Designs and implements entity and process level controls
  • Preparation of accurate reporting and filing of quarterly and annual financial statements and footnotes in accordance with IFRS and the annual report
  • Preparation of other regulatory filings such as Management’s Discussion & Analysis prepared quarterly, the Annual Information Form and the Management Information Circular
  • Perform accounting and financial analyses to identify key trends and support critical estimates, such as accruals and reserves
  • Collaborate cross functionally to aid in the preparation and reporting of financial results
  • Collaborate with internal and external auditors in connection with audits and reviews

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with CPA designation
  • At least five years of progressive accounting experience, with minimum two years in public accounting
  • Extensive knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS and internal controls
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel 
  • Exposure to foreign currency transactions and translation of foreign entities is preferred
  • Exposure to share-based compensation is preferred
  • Experience applying business combination guidance as it relates to mergers and acquisitions
