Job Description

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the VP of Finance and Operations is a key member of the leadership team at Versique Search & Consulting. The person in this role will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic oversight of financial resources and administrative management to ensure best practices are in-place to maximize the return on economic resources and successfully leveraging growth opportunities. The position will work closely and collaboratively with the COO and executive leadership across the organization to provide reliable financial and operational reporting and controls.

The measurement and determinants of success in the VP of Finance & Operations role at Versique will include: assist in establishing growth-focused budgets & value creation, assist in creating an efficient organizational structure and corresponding position descriptions with appropriate compensation structures to accommodate projected growth, implementing operational performance metrics, timely and accurate financial information and reporting, and variance analysis while executing appropriately corrective measures as necessary.

The Vice President of Finance will be responsible for managing a team of four direct reports: Corporate Controller, HR Coordinator, Office Administrator, and the functional management of outsourced IT services.

Roles & Responsibilities

The VP of Finance & Operations is accountable for the administrative, finance and reporting, structural organization and corresponding role responsibilities, and risk management operations of the company. These principle accountabilities include assisting in the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of controls systems and procedures designed to preserve company assets and promote value creation.

Essential roles and responsibilities will include the following:

1.  Planning 

  • Assist in formulating the company’s future direction and supporting initiatives.
  • Monitor and direct the implementation of strategic business plans.
  • Develop finance and tax strategies.
  • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes.
  • Develop performance measures that support the company’s strategic direction.

2.  Operational

  • Participate in key decisions as a member of the executive leadership team.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the leadership team.
  • Manage the accounting, tax, and treasury functions.
  • Oversee the financial operations of related companies, as applicable.
  • Manage any third parties that have been outsourced, for example IT support.
  • Oversee the company’s transaction processing systems to ensure efficiencies.
  • Implement operational best practices.
  • Oversee benefit plans, with emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package.

3.  Finance and Reporting

  • Ensure financial and operating results are reported in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Provide financial and operational information to leadership to drive value creating decision making.
  • Manage the accounting, tax, and treasury functions.
  • Oversee the financial operations of related companies, as applicable.
  • The reporting of financial and operating results to ownership.
  • Implement appropriate financial best practices.
  • Supervise and/or conduct acquisition due diligence and assist in negotiations.

4.  Risk Management

  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile, to include contracts used in the course of business.
  • Construct and monitor reliable control systems.
  • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage.
  • Ensure that the company complies with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors.
  • Report risk issues to ownership.
  • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations.

5.  Funding

  • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts.
  • Arrange for debt and equity financing as necessary.
  • Invest funds as appropriate.

6.  Third Party relationships

  • Maintain relationships with insurance providers and brokers and with the bank.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting with an advance degree (MBA) and/or certification (CPA, CMA) preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant finance and operational leadership roles with progressively more responsibilities.
  • Work history will include supervisory responsibility of a professional finance and administrative staff; ability to source, select, develop, promote and retain top talent.
  • A broad and well-developed business acumen, as well as functional and cross-functional project management experience.
  • Outstanding relationship and communication skills; excellent oral and written skills, ability to process information and think quickly, and to interact collaboratively with the leadership team.
  • A hands-on leader with strong relationship and interpersonal skills who commands respect and confidence from all stakeholders in the organization.
