VP/SVP, Commercial Banking

In line with established policies and procedures, the VP/SVP, Commercial Banking is responsible for effectively developing, managing, and servicing smaller to midsize commercial relationships through activities designed to emphasize quality new loan origination, fee income generation, deposit generation and customer relationship building of new and existing customers.  Is responsible for attaining established monthly and yearly goals while generating an acceptable level of profit to the bank.  

Worksite Location: Bloomington, Woodbury, Minnetonka, St. Paul, or Maple Grove

Salary Range: $145,000 - $195,000 base salary plus quarterly and annual incentive plan

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Solicits and/or develops profitable new commercial business by managing the sales process: contacting prospects, networking, building business relationships, cold calling, etc.  
  • Services an existing portfolio. Maintains and grows both loan and deposit balances.
  • Provides continuing financial advice as needed.
  • Through relationship management, determines customer’s commercial loan and deposit needs, and deepens customer relationships through cross-selling products and services. Ensures that relationships are managed to the highest profit potential for the bank.
  • Acts as the customer’s advocate in securing suitable credit, yet negotiates credit terms and pricing satisfactory to the bank. 
  • Follows established procedures/processes for commercial loan underwriting and credit analysis, and obtains approval for loans within established bank policies. 
  • Oversees preparation of loan documents, facilitates loan closing and signing of documents, and explains all aspects of loan and requirements to customer.
  • Responsible for timely identification and early detection of problem loans. Monitors, on an ongoing basis, information concerning customer performance, abilities, and industry. Ensures proper reporting, documentation, and review.
  • Partners with other bank sales channels (Cash Management, Retail Banking, etc.) to refer sales opportunities as appropriate. 
  • Participates in community and professional activities to promote the image of the bank.
  • Maintains a high level of bank compliance and regulatory knowledge; trains and educates self in new areas of job knowledge through formal education, self-study, and reading of trade journals.        
  • Other duties as assigned.
  Required Skills & Experience:
  • Working knowledge of interpreting financial statements, applying business accounting and financial principles.
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills.
  • Experience managing a portfolio of customers.
  • Detailed knowledge of credit risk management practices.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong team player.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Solid attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Windows based software such as Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Maintains a detailed knowledge of legal and regulatory banking compliance.
  • BS Degree or graduate degree in Business or Finance.
  • 7-10+ years of business-to-business/financial services sales or banking experience.
  • Prior experience managing relationships with credit needs generally up to $5MM - $10MM.
