The Interim Human Resources Consultant will lead a short-term policy review and compliance project for a mission-driven university with a strong sense of community and purpose. This project-based role requires expertise in HR compliance, policy development, and clear, concise language editing. The ideal consultant will bring a collaborative and detail-oriented approach, as well as experience in both higher education and legal/policy writing. This is an onsite role with flexible hours estimated between 75 and 100 total project hours over 2 months.

 

Worksite Location: Onsite – Twin Cities metro area (onsite presence is required to lead and manage the project)

Salary Range: Hourly rate between $55-$65, DOE

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the review, revision, and finalization of HR and student-facing policies for compliance and clarity
  • Write, revise, and edit institutional handbooks and policy documents using plain language while ensuring legal accuracy
  • Collaborate with HR leadership and legal counsel to align policies with institutional goals and legal standards
  • Manage the full lifecycle of the policy review project, from scoping through digital and print publication
  • Work within Google Docs and other collaborative platforms to track and implement edits
  • Attend weekly check-ins and provide consistent status updates on progress

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive experience in HR compliance and handbook/policy development within higher education
  • Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to translate legal and HR content into accessible, plain-language documents
  • Demonstrated success managing HR policy projects from initiation to publication
  • Familiarity with student policy, HR compliance, and legal terminology
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate cross-functionally with HR and legal teams
  • Comfort working in Google Docs and other collaborative digital tools
