CAD Drafter/Designer (ID:47341)

The CAD Drafter/Designer (CDD) will report to the Superintendent.  The CCD's primary role is to provide "as-built" drawings of existing and/or new equipment. The CCD provides mechanical and structural representations showing dimensions and structural load calculations. The secondary role of the CCD is to develop concepts and/or designs for new equipment and products that will be produced in the future. Only U.S. citizens will be considered.

Salary:  $55-65/yr DOQ.

Position: On-site.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Conducting field surveys of existing equipment
  • Developing CAD models showing changes to equipment and/or the integration of new equipment
  • Review, understand, and apply various codes relating to the equipment
  • Reviews designs, models, and other applicable documents for a project
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) under challenging phases 
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
  • Prepares load calculations based on existing and/or new conditions
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations, as well as determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques
  • Apply knowledge of company capabilities and operations to determine material and labor hours needed for product costing, and verify compliance with marketing and sales expectations 
  • Prepare mechanical assembly layouts and details
  • Work with operations to develop project schedules, costs, and cost reduction
  • Prepare mechanical equations for machinery
  • Develop initial design ideas and concepts
  • Define reasonable project goals
  • Work to develop, maintain, and improve processes related to the role
  • Communicate with the team and customers
  • Follow up phone, email, and communication support with the team and customers as required
  • Supports customer relations and customer satisfaction
  • Prepares reports as required by management
  • Computer operation (AutoCAD-LT, Microsoft software, etc.)

Required Skills & Experience:

  • 2-year Associate's Degree in Engineering Drafting and Design (or equivalent) and 1-3 years of work experience in mechanical design
  • 2 + years of experience with AutoCAD-LT and Microsoft Office products
  • 1+ years of experience with 3D CAD modeling is a plus
  • Occasional travel to job sites within MN may be required
