Our client is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of a dynamic and growing professional services organization. This position will play a critical role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing cash flow, and supporting strategic business initiatives. The Controller will lead core accounting functions while partnering closely with leadership, operations, and human resources to support organizational growth and operational excellence. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting leader who enjoys balancing technical accounting responsibilities with process improvement, team development, and business partnership.

Worksite Location:
Downtown Minneapolis, MN – Hybrid (In-office Tuesday through Thursday)

Salary Range: $100,000 – $140,000 base salary plus incentive compensation opportunity

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Lead daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, expense accounting, sales tax, payroll, and timekeeping processes
• Oversee the preparation and review of monthly financial statements, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with GAAP
• Manage cash flow activities, banking relationships, and daily treasury functions
• Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial processes to support business growth and data integrity
• Process payroll and oversee payroll-related compliance, reporting, and record maintenance
• Monitor and manage multi-state sales tax reporting and filing requirements
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, reporting processes, and operational efficiency
• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members while fostering accountability and continuous improvement
• Partner closely with Human Resources on payroll, benefits administration, and employee-related financial processes
• Coordinate with external CPA firms on annual tax filings, audits, and other financial reporting requirements
• Support budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and special projects as requested by leadership
• Assist with operational and administrative initiatives that support overall business objectives
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership to support strategic decision-making

Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience with strong exposure to financial reporting and operational accounting
• Minimum of 3 years of leadership experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or similar accounting management role
• Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting controls, and financial reporting best practices
• Experience processing payroll and administering employee-related accounting functions
• Knowledge of multi-state sales tax compliance and reporting requirements
• Demonstrated ability to manage accounting operations in a fast-paced and evolving environment
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities with the capability to partner effectively across departments
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
