Our client is seeking a dynamic Controller to lead the financial operations of their rapidly growing e-commerce and manufacturing business, providing strategic insights that drive growth and profitability. As the Company Controller, you will be responsible for managing the company's financial health, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with all relevant regulations. In this key role, you will work closely with the executive team and board members to guide decision-making, provide financial insights, and implement strategies that support the continued growth of our eCommerce platform. This position is ideal for individuals with a background in retail finance who thrive in fast-paced environments.

Worksite Location: This position is in Menomonie, WI.

Salary: $110k - $150k/yr base salary plus annual bonus.

Roles & Responsibilities:  

  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and oversee the company's financial statements, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards (GAAP)
  • E-commerce Financial Management: Develop, manage, and analyze financial performance metrics specific to e-commerce, including product profitability, inventory turnover, gross margins, and cost of goods produced and sold (COGS)
  • Cash Flow and Working Capital Management: Oversee cash flow to ensure the business has adequate liquidity for operations, inventory procurement, and expansion, while monitoring working capital to optimize financial performance
  • Inventory & Raw Materials Management: Collaborate with the production and inventory teams to monitor inventory levels and costs, ensuring accurate valuation and efficient inventory turnover in line with eCommerce sales cycles
  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, working closely with department heads to align financial targets with business goals, and track performance against the plan
  • Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, including sales tax and other industry-specific rules
  • Tax Management: Oversee the company's tax filings to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax laws and regulations, particularly sales tax for online transactions across multiple jurisdictions
  • Audit and External Relationships: Coordinate external audits, working closely with auditors to ensure accurate financial reporting and full compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Financial Analysis & Strategic Insights: Provide regular financial analysis and reports to senior management, including insights on product performance, sales trends, and financial forecasting, to help drive business decisions
  • Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve product production processes, accounting and financial best practices, and reporting systems to drive efficiency and scalability

Required Skills & Experience: 

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent certification preferred)
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within the eCommerce, retail, or consumer goods sectors
  • E-Commerce Expertise: Experience with e-commerce financial operations, including knowledge of payment gateways, order processing, and online sales tax requirements, is preferred
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.). Experience with systems and e-commerce platforms (Shopify, Magento, etc.) is a plus
  • Financial Knowledge: Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, inventory management, and tax compliance specific to the retail and e-commerce industry
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights that support strategic business decisions
  • Leadership and Communication Skills: Proven ability to lead and motivate a team, with strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across departments
  • Detail-Oriented: High attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
