Director of Operations (ID:47319)

Are you a plant manager/operations leader who identifies opportunities within a manufacturing organization to help the business expand its capacity?  This position will allow you to leverage your previous experience introducing change into a second-generation, privately held, and highly successful business.

The Director of Operations is responsible for managing and directing the plant and production organization to achieve the established objectives and goals.  Direct reports include two Production Managers and a Scheduling Supervisor, with 220 employees and two physical plant locations; the position reports to the VP of Operations.  This is a newly created position designed to introduce new ideas and implement efficiency changes that will help grow the business's capacity.

Worksite Location: This is an on-site leadership position, located near Alexandria, MN. Relocation assistance is available as needed.

Salary: $125 -170k, plus bonus. DOE

Benefits: 401(k) matching at 33 cents on the dollar up to 10%, health insurance, $10k life insurance paid by the company, and optional dental and vision coverage.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Understands, endorses, and supports the mission and values of the company.

  • Develops, gains approval of, and implements goals, objectives, and budgets for his/her area of responsibility.
  • Provides meaningful input regarding the policies, operations, and direction of the company, our client follows EOS.
  • Demonstrates leadership by presenting a positive example, establishing high standards, holding people accountable, and maintaining the highest standards of honesty and integrity.
  • Hires, orients, trains, and develops employees in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Supervises and directs the efforts of employees in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Assures that all employees' performance is appraised in an objective and timely manner.
  • Identifies the need for disciplinary action, initiates appropriate discipline, and follows through accordingly.
  • Participates in and contributes to the Executive Management Team.
  • Participates in the development and achievement of strategic plans for Production.
  • Develops, gains approval of, and implements plans, objectives, budgets, and goals for his/her area of responsibility.

  • Make presentations to the Executive Management Team.
  • Achieves budgeted revenues and expenses, maximizing profitability.
  • Hires, orients, trains, and develops personnel in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Reviews and evaluates the performance of personnel on a timely basis and initiates pay changes.
  • Supervises, directs, and motivates the efforts of personnel in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Identifies the need for disciplinary action, initiates appropriate discipline, and follows through accordingly.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of all employees in Production.
  • Ensures the accurate, timely, and efficient shipment of products.
  • Knows and complies with all applicable regulations, i.e., EPA, etc.
  • Analyzes the need for capital equipment and makes recommendations to the VP of Operations.
  • Coordinates Production to fully utilize equipment, create efficiencies, and meet production schedules.
  • Works with EHS Coordinator and assures compliance with all applicable regulations, i.e., OSHA, AWAIR, etc.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors systems for purchasing the right materials and supplies at the optimal price and timing.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors systems for receiving supplies and materials.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors systems for controlling inventory.
  • Monitors production and adjusts as needed to meet delivery schedules.
  • Adheres to testing systems to ensure the quality of the product and compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Seek self-improvement to enhance job performance.
  • Promotes the Organization, its mission, values, programs, and achievements to the public and other employees.
  • Identifies organizational problems and opportunities for improvement and brings solutions and suggestions to management's attention.
  • Functions as a team member by assisting, supporting, and encouraging other employees in any way possible.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree highly preferred
  • 15+ years of manufacturing experience, with at least 10 years of leadership experience.
  • Proven experience in driving efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated success in leading change management initiatives and improvements.
  • Excellent leader of people and someone who aligns well with core values.
  • Experience working in a job shop or with highly customized, fabricated (welded & assembled) products is preferred.
