Interim Payroll Consultant

The Interim Payroll Consultant will take ownership of day-to-day payroll administration and assist with system transitions as needed. This role requires strong multi-state payroll experience, excellent auditing skills, and the ability to independently manage payroll cycles, troubleshoot issues, and ensure compliance. The consultant will play a critical role in maintaining consistent payroll operations throughout 2026.

Worksite Location: Hybrid - Southwest Minneapolis Suburbs area

Salary Range: Hourly rate between $45–$50, DOE

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Manage and process multi-state payroll for exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Maintain and administer payroll within current and new system
  • Audit, validate, and reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Troubleshoot payroll issues, investigate discrepancies, and communicate resolutions clearly
  • Support payroll reporting needs and partner closely with HR, Total Rewards, and HRIS team members
  • Assist with limited benefits administration tasks as capacity allows
  • Provide stability and continuity for payroll operations while core HR staff focus on other activities

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Strong background in payroll administration, with proven multi-state payroll experience
  • Experience with HRIS systems preferred
  • Ability to independently manage payroll cycles with high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills and comfort investigating and resolving payroll issues
  • Experience supporting exempt and non-exempt populations
  • Highly organized, dependable, and able to maintain structure while the team navigates system changes
