Interim Payroll & HRIS Consultant

Calling all Payroll/HRIS Consultants in search of their next great role! This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented HRIS and payroll professional who thrives in high-growth environments and enjoys hands-on system work. You’ll support a rapidly scaling organization through significant hiring activity and a major HRIS/payroll implementation. This role is ideal for someone who is tech-savvy, analytical, and comfortable managing complex data across systems.

The Interim Payroll/HRIS Consultant will provide critical payroll and HRIS administrative support during a period of rapid growth and system transformation. Partnering closely with Finance and HR, this consultant will manage new hire data entry, payroll processing support, audits, and reporting while assisting with an HRIS and payroll migration. The role will be instrumental in ensuring data accuracy and continuity as the organization prepares to onboard a high volume of new employees and transitions to new systems.

Worksite Location: Minneapolis, MN – Hybrid

Salary Range: Hourly rate between $38–$50, DOE

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Enter and maintain new hire data for payroll and benefits across multiple systems
  • Support multi-state payroll administration, including batching, auditing, and validation
  • Serve as backup payroll processor to ensure continuity and accuracy
  • Partner closely with Finance, Accounting, and HR teams on payroll and HRIS needs
  • Support HRIS and payroll system implementation and migration activities
  • Conduct data audits and reconciliations to ensure accuracy during high-volume hiring
  • Build and run reports using Excel, including pivot tables and VLOOKUPs
  • Maintain documentation and support process improvements across payroll and HRIS workflows

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in payroll and HRIS administration, including multi-state payroll support
  • Experience entering and auditing payroll and benefits data with strong attention to detail
  • Tech-savvy across payroll and HRIS systems (Paychex, BambooHR, and Employee Navigator, etc.)
  • Exposure to Workday and/or ADP strongly preferred, especially in implementation or migration contexts
  • Strong Excel skills, including managing large datasets and pivot tables
  • Highly organized, analytical, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
  • Professional, mature communication style aligned with a polished and focused culture
