Payroll & Commissions Accountant
Join an established automation industry leader in a highly visible accounting role where you’ll take ownership of payroll, sales commissions, and related accounting processes. Our client is seeking a Payroll & Commission Accountant to oversee the organization’s payroll and sales commission functions while supporting broader accounting and financial reporting activities. This role will serve as the primary point of contact for multi-state payroll administration, payroll tax compliance, commission calculations, and related accounting processes. Working closely with employees, sales representatives, leadership, auditors, and external partners, this individual will help ensure accurate and timely transactions while maintaining a high level of service and confidentiality. The position also provides an opportunity to contribute to month-end close, reconciliations, audits, budgeting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Salary Range: $65k - $90k

Roles and Responsibilities:
• Manage accurate and timely multi-state bi-weekly payroll using ADP Workforce Now
• Maintain employee payroll records and ensure payroll system information remains accurate and up to date
• Coordinate payroll-related funding for 401(k), HSA, profit-sharing, and other employee benefit contributions
• Prepare and submit federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and unemployment reports
• Respond to employee questions regarding payroll and investigate and resolve issues as they arise
• Calculate and process sales commissions, including statements, payments, allocations, adjustments, and supporting schedules
• Reconcile commission activity and prepare related expense reporting for management
• Serve as a key resource for sales representatives and internal stakeholders regarding commission calculations and inquiries
• Prepare recurring journal entries related to payroll, PTO, benefits, operating deposits, petty cash, and other accounting activities
• Perform account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies to ensure financial information is complete and accurate
• Support monthly and annual financial close activities and related reporting requirements
• Produce payroll, commission, and accounting reports for leadership and other stakeholders
• Lead preparation of year-end payroll and accounting audit schedules and supporting documentation
• Coordinate the annual 401(k) audit and work directly with auditors and external partners as needed
• Research and resolve payroll, commission, and accounting discrepancies in a timely manner
• Assist with budgeting, special projects, internal controls, and process improvements across payroll and accounting functions
Required Skills & Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience with hands-on payroll processing responsibilities
• Recent experience processing payroll through ADP Workforce Now required
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, payroll tax requirements, and general accounting principles
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
• Experience with sales commissions, commission accounting, or related reporting preferred
• Experience supporting financial audits and preparing audit workpapers preferred
• Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation preferred
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with exceptional attention to detail
• Highly organized and able to manage multiple deadlines while maintaining accuracy
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments
• Ability to handle sensitive employee and financial information with a high degree of confidentiality and discretion
