As this exciting client embarks on a journey of growth and expansion, they are seeking a dedicated and experienced Technical Manager to lead their technical operations and wastewater team.

 

The Technical Operations & Environmental Manager is a senior leadership role responsible for the efficiency, reliability, and environmental compliance of the company's technical infrastructure. This role oversees maintenance of waste treatment systems, engineering projects, production technical support, inventory management, and environmental programs. The manager will also ensure alignment with business goals, regulatory requirements, and sustainability initiatives while promoting continuous improvement and innovation.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance of wastewater treatment and technical systems to ensure reliability and minimize downtime
  • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across systems
  • Lead engineering projects from concept through commissioning in alignment with business needs
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve infrastructure and operational efficiency
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new technologies or system upgrades
  • Provide technical support to production teams to meet output and quality targets
  • Analyze data to identify bottlenecks and drive process improvements
  • Partner with production leadership to implement cost-effective technical solutions
  • Manage waste treatment operations in accordance with environmental regulations and best practices
  • Lead sustainability initiatives focused on waste reduction, energy conservation, and environmental impact
  • Maintain environmental policies and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
  • Oversee purchasing and inventory control of key production supplies, including chemicals and critical materials
  • Ensure proper storage, usage, and replenishment of inventory to support uninterrupted operations
  • Maintain vendor relationships and negotiate supply contracts to ensure quality and cost-efficiency
  • Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of technicians and maintenance personnel
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
  • Develop and manage budgets related to maintenance, engineering, and environmental programs
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards
  • Prepare and present reports on operational metrics, maintenance performance, and environmental impact
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies, auditors, and external stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

  • A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field is required
  • Experience in metal finishing, surface treatment, or related manufacturing operations, or wastewater treatment regulatory experience is strongly preferred
  • Proven leadership with the ability to manage and motivate cross-functional teams is preferred. 
  • Supervisory experience is highly preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on process improvement
  • Deep knowledge of safety, quality, and environmental regulations
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test (safety-sensitive role per Minnesota Section 181.950, Subd. 13)

Work Environment

  • Office within a manufacturing/distribution facility
  • Occasional domestic travel
  • Exposure to factory and warehouse conditions (heat, humidity, dust, chemicals, loud noise)
  • Mandatory use of company-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required
  • This position is onsite in Minneapolis, MN

Salary: $95k - $135k base salary is ideal, DOE.
