Versique Executive Places Mark Gillen as Chief Financial Officer at United Hospital District
Minneapolis, MN – Versique Executive is proud to announce the successful placement of Mark Gillen as Chief Financial Officer of United Hospital District in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Gillen brings more than three decades of financial leadership experience in both rural and tertiary healthcare settings and will begin his new role at UHD in September.
Versique Executive’s search engagement was conducted in close partnership with Rick Ash, CEO, United Hospital District.
Gillen’s 30+year career at Allina Health included leadership roles in both critical access and larger hospital environments. Most recently, Mark had regional operations and financial oversite of New Ulm Medical Center, River Falls Hospital, EMS, and Clinical Service Lines. Prior, Gillen had financial responsibility for Owatonna Hospital and Fairbault Medical Center—gaining deep understanding of rural health finance and the operational complexities unique to Critical Access Hospitals. Gillen also led financial operations for United Hospital in St. Paul, one of the Twin Cities’ largest tertiary care centers.
Most recently, Gillen played an instrumental role in helping Allina Health achieve a $165 million favorable operating margin swing—moving from a projected $107 million loss to a $58 million gain in 2024. His disciplined financial leadership, paired with close operational alignment, was a key driver in that success.
In recognition of his contributions, Gillen was named one of Becker’s Hospital Review’s “Top 50 CFOs to Know” for regional hospitals, highlighting his national impact in healthcare finance.
