Data & Analytics Lead

This is a rare opportunity to join a successful investment firm in a highly visible role where you’ll influence how they leverage data to drive business performance, streamline processes, improve data accessibility, advance analytics capabilities and guide the responsible use of AI technologies. In this flat, collaborative organization, you will evaluate current reporting and data practices, implement modern analytics and automation solutions, and establish best practices for data governance and AI adoption.

Work Site Location: Minneapolis, 5 days onsite (business casual)
Salary: $120 - $160k

Role & Responsibilities
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary resource for data, analytics, reporting, automation, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead data governance and usability best practices as it relates to the use of enterprise AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, etc. and their associated integrations with the firm's technical stack including DealCloud, PitchBook, and Dakota.
  • Partner with stakeholders across Investor Relations, Finance, Compliance, Audit, Due Diligence, Investor Reporting, and Portfolio Management to translate business needs into scalable data and reporting solutions.
  • Assess existing reports, data sources, spreadsheets, and manual processes to identify opportunities for standardization, consolidation, automation, and improved usability.
  • Improve and automate recurring reporting processes, data collection, reconciliation, and reporting workflows to increase efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Enhance the collection, organization, standardization, analysis, and accessibility of data across portfolio companies, funds, and investor reporting functions.
  • Develop and maintain scalable datasets, dashboards, reporting capabilities, and analytics solutions that provide timely, actionable insights for business decision-making.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, exceptions, and opportunities that support investment, portfolio, financial, and operational decisions.
  • Establish and promote practical data governance practices, including data ownership, quality standards, documentation, lineage, access controls, and trusted data sources.
  • Evaluate evolving business needs and recommend data, analytics, reporting, automation, and AI solutions that align with company objectives.
  • Help define and execute the data and analytics roadmap, prioritizing initiatives and recommending technology investments.
  • Identify and evaluate AI and automation opportunities across reporting, diligence, investor relations, finance, compliance, and portfolio monitoring while ensuring appropriate governance and controls.
  • Partner with external vendors and technology resources as needed while maintaining internal ownership of data and analytics priorities.
  • Operate as a highly autonomous, hands-on individual contributor who leads initiatives through influence and cross-functional collaboration.
Required Skills & Experience
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in data analytics, business intelligence, financial analytics, reporting, or a related field.
  • Proven ability to independently lead data and analytics initiatives from requirements gathering through implementation, adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Hands-on experience with Power BI, Tableau, Qlik (Qlik Sense/QlikView), Excel, SQL, and data modeling concepts to develop dashboards, reports, visualizations, KPI frameworks, and analytics solutions for business users.
  • Strong experience working with complex datasets, integrating disparate data sources, and creating scalable, reliable reporting environments that support business decision-making.
  • Demonstrated success automating reporting, data, and workflow processes using tools such as Power BI, Power Query, Power Automate, Alteryx, or similar technologies.
  • Strong understanding of data management, integration, governance, data quality, lineage, documentation, and reporting best practices.
  • Experience supporting enterprise AI platforms and integrations, including user enablement, AI governance, data security, access management, and compliance best practices for tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, PitchBook, DealCloud, and Dakota.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to translate business needs into practical data solutions and align analytics initiatives with organizational objectives.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in clear business language, influence cross-functional teams, manage competing priorities, and operate effectively in a highly autonomous environment.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience within investment management, private equity, private credit, asset management, financial services, fund administration, or other reporting-intensive environments.
  • Experience supporting Investor Relations, fund reporting, portfolio reporting, DDQs, investment analytics, financial reporting, compliance, and audit functions.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms and modern data architectures, including Microsoft Azure, Azure SQL, Azure Data Factory, Snowflake, Databricks, or similar technologies.
  • Experience building executive dashboards, board-level reporting packages, and KPI frameworks for senior leaders and stakeholders within financial services or investment-focused organizations.
  • Experience thriving in a lean organization that requires balancing strategic ownership with hands-on execution.
  • Experience managing relationships with external technology vendors, consultants, and specialized service providers.
