Senior Tax Manager (ID:44967)
Unique opportunity for a seasoned tax professional to join a family office in St. Paul. This role offers the challenges of complex tax reporting without the intensity of a CPA Firm busy season.
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Tax Manager will provide comprehensive tax compliance services for the principals and beneficiaries of our client. The primary responsibilities include: tax compliance management, tax season coordination, tax return preparation, review and signing, tax planning, and quarterly tax estimates.

Roles & Responsibilities:
1. TAX COMPLIANCE MANAGEMENT: Primary responsibility for the tax compliance practice for our client including:
  • Coordination of tax preparation process with family office staff.
  • Preparation, review and filing of all tax returns.
  • Identify and implement planning and research issues.
  • Meet with taxpayers to review returns and discuss issues.
  • Respond to IRS and State notices.
  • Coordination of tax adjustments to be recorded in accounting system.
2. TAX SEASON COORDINATION:
  • Maintain tax return list, due dates and flow of source documents used in the preparation of tax returns.
  • Coordinate tax workflow and responsibilities with in-house staff and off-shore tax team at Xpitax.
  • Conduct staff meetings for organization of tax season and training on software as needed.
3. TAX PREPARATION:
  • Prepare complete and accurate federal and state tax returns or all entities including; trusts, partnerships, corporations, private foundation, individuals, and gift and estate tax.
  • Demonstrate expertise with a wide variety of returns for individuals, trusts, partnerships, corporations, private foundation and foreign entities. Ensure timely and accurate preparation of tax returns. Ensure organized supporting documents are prepared for each return. Demonstrate knowledge of past, present and pending tax requirements at the local and federal levels.
  • Conduct the final review of all tax returns and work papers completed by yourself and others.
  • Sign the tax returns as preparer.
4. TAX PLANNING & RESEARCH:
  • Conduct required tax code and regulation research as needed in connection with tax planning or tax return compliance.
  • Prepare written summary of research findings.
5. QUARTERLY TAX ESTIMATES:
  • Prepare calculations for quarterly (as needed) and year-end tax projections using BNA software.
  • Review projections and determine the required quarterly estimated tax payments.
  • Coordinate timely payment of estimates with Accountant.
6. OTHER ACCOUNTING OR TAX COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Initiate and continually refine, policies, procedures and practices related to tax services provided by the family office. Continually improve processes using spreadsheets, pivot tables, PDF editors and other software and technology to organize work papers and maintain electronic files.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Broad tax compliance experience including large accounting firm experience.
  • Proficient in preparation of the following returns: fiduciary, partnership, individual, private foundation, gift tax.
  • Proficient in use of Tax Preparation Software (CCH Axcess), Tax Research, Microsoft Office programs; Adobe PDF Editor, resourceful in using web-based tools.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
